Heidi Ruhl was born and raised in Lancaster County PA where she lives with her husband and two young kids. As a kid she was always drawing, coloring, or creating some type of craft. She grew up in a creative family. Her Mom being an artist who worked with pottery, and her Dad crafting things constantly as he was a skilled carpenter and tradesman. Heidi knew from an early age that she was meant to create and is what she is most
passionate about. She has always admired classic artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, and Renoir. Her two kids inspire her to see life through their eyes as her work has been described as primitive, colorful, and whimsical. She loves to travel and finds inspiration exploring new destinations and photographing the landscapes and architecture.

Heidi attended Pennsylvania College of Art and Design in Lancaster PA where she studied illustration and animation, graduating with a BFA in Illustration (2007). She applied the skills she learned from school to become a freelance artist. Some of her accomplishments include illustrating the 2006 cover of PennAg magazine, winning the award for "best animation" category in the 2008 Rumspringa Film Festival (now the Lancaster International Short Film Festival), and permanent public installation of her work at Penn State Hospital in Lancaster, PA (2022).

She enjoys working with many mediums, including acylics, watercolor, colored pencil, and oils. Her main focuses inlcude nature, landscapes, and animals. She believes art has a strong influence on our emotions and mood. She strives to capture details in her work that her clients find relatable, and portray the beauty and serenity of nature. Experimenting with other mediums to express her artistic abilities is another interest of hers as she has also worked with clay, both redware and polymer, and recently taken an interest in metal sculpture.
